Extract from Report on the State of human rights in Eritrea 2005 source: SUWERA CENTER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

Asnayit Debessai: a former fighter in EPLF and a guitar player, was detained because of her demand for divorce from her influential husband, an ambassador in Kenya, through a court. The government investigator visits Asnayit every three days and asks her if she had changed her mind with respect to her request for divorce. Every time she gives a negative response she was turned back to the jail. Asnayit says, she prefers to stay in prison rather than joining her husband who mistreats and beats her.
