I have attached a very interesting history of the split and the larger context of the solidarity movement for Eritrean national liberation that I found online at Awate.com, an anti-Eritrean government website (I do not know enough about the politics of the website or the situation in Eritrea to comment on either), written by Mehretab Mehari in 2007 and I have attached it below for anyone interested in reading it. Interestingly, and this is not mentioned in this specific article, but one of the reasons for the collapse of the movement was the influence of a pro-Albanian group called the Central Organization of U.S Marxist-Leninists (later reformed as the Marxist-Leninist Party, USA), which was affiliated to the Hardial Bains-led CPC(ML) into the ELFNA, and their charge that the EPLF needed to maintain no diplomatic contacts with the Ethiopian government and recognize Soviet social-imperialism as the principal international threat.
