Gedab news reported on Oct 29, 2009 that a conference on Eritrea will be held in Brussels. It also reported the participation of Eritrean “task force”. In reaction to this news, EDA chairman wrote a letter to European Commission president Mr Jose Manuel accusing him of exclusion and endangering the unity of EDA. In defence of the Brussels Conference (BC), Selam Kidane assured us “the sky is not falling” and the emerging doubts and concerns on merger of EDP, EPM and EPP by some Eritreans is just a “conspiracy theory”. Adhanom Fetwi shed some light on the BC and explained that he has no opposition having the conference but argued that the process and strategy employed wasn’t inclusive. The Awate team in its editorial wrote more clarification on the BC and was highly critical of the European union. Habtom Yohannes, on the other hand, dismissed the news as “erroneous reporting” and argued that organizing a conference is a “democratic right” of any citizen. EMDHR, on the other hand, defended the decision to have BC and explained the importance of criticism with responsibility.
[1] The Task Force is not an organization but a group of Eritreans under the inspiring leadership of Kassahun Checole who met first in London to assess how they can better put Eritrea on the agenda of the international community and the EU in particular. Meriem Ommer, Kassahun Checole, Mehret Gebreyesus, Dawit Mesfin, Dr. Daniel Rezene, Habtom Yohannes and this group was later expanded to include Abdulrahman Sayed (Bohashem), Tsedal Yohannes, Selam Kidane, Noel Yosief and Meron Estifanos (Exclusion?). These Eritreans have diverse backgrounds and are active within the Task Force on individual basis and don’t represent their organization within the Task Force or its activities.
Semere Zaid, described as "not only an Eritrean intellectual but also a brother in Christ," was arrested on February 1, 2005 when he turned himself into police. In his February 7 editorial on Asmarino.com, Habtom Yohannes states that the Eritrean government has established a task force specifically to eradicate all "menfesawyan" ("spirituals" - a term often used to describe charismatic Christians) from the country by the end of 2005. Eritrean citizens are being asked to report any "spirituals" they know. When Zaid returned from studying abroad, he was warned of the danger he faced. However, he wanted to believe the best of his country. When he discovered that the task force was investigating him, he voluntarily went to the police station along with officials from the University of Asmara . The university officials were asked to leave and Zaid was arrested without charges.

ሚኒስተር ነበር ብርሃነ ኣብራሃ፣ ሎሚ 17 መስከረም 2018 እታ ሓለንጊ ኢሳይያስ ኣርኪባትሉ ተኣሲሩ ይባሃል ኣሎ:: :-(( ምንጪ Habtom Yohannes I just received the sad news, that Minister Berhane Abrehe (73) is arrested this morning in Asmara; 16 days after he called for democracy on September 1, 2018. It is tomorrow 17 years since the G15 and journalists disappeared. His wife Almaz Habtemariam is already in prison. Childeren orphans.
No matter how much Mr. Michael Abraha attempts to cloak himself with "freedom of expression," he can not cover his lack of professionalism, his lack of ethics and his extremist fanaticism; he has already deceived many of the leaders of the Eritrean opposition into a trap of his “interviews” and by editorializing political speeches by carefully choosing his victims. Michael Abraha’s list of victims include the great author Ustaz Omar Jaber, The Eritrean journalist Ustaz Habtom Yohannes" and to some degree (until it is proven otherwise) Ustaz Woldeyesus Ammar. Sheikh Hassan Salman was also the latest leader whom Michael targeted for the trap.
The inflammatory article referred to above was not written by Mr. Michael Abraha in search of limelight, but he wrote it in his attempt to escape forward, because Saleh Johar disappointed him by not taking the poisonous bait that Abraha presented in a plate—an interview with Habtom Yohannes, which was sent for publication to the Awate website. In essence, that “interview,” was presented as a kind of primitive surgery only to come out to the reader distorted and detrimental to the integrity of the interviewee—to the extent that it forced the journalist Habtom Yahhanes to stand up to defend his reputation by publishing a “response” and expose the falsehood and fraud which was brought forth by Michael Abraha.

I wish our brother Habtom Yohannes has left us with the information furnished by Gedab News. His “clarification” displayed his attempt to cover the gravity of the mistake they have done to the opposition camp.
Our brother Habtom Yohannes says, "It has become a fashion to demand for democracy, accountability, inclusiveness and transparency in season and out of season". This is disrespect to the values of the struggle that Eritreans waged to realize for more than half a century. Mr. Habtom despises the values of democracy that the Eritrean people want to embrace. He degrades Eritreans. This attitude compels me to question: What is the distinction between what our brother has written and the way the dictator mocks democracy and the Eritrean people? Are Eritreans superficial to such an extent that they mimic seasonal fashions? I discern in such kind of writings the voice of Isaias who presents himself as the sole custodian of the Eritrea.
The press is not obliged to withhold news until they obtain the whole story. They publish part of the news which they have got; the remaining part of the story should be provided by the parties involved. Breaking news is an example of publishing or broadcasting part of the story. How can we understand a media, awate.com, which published an article of three pages to be accused of not rectifying the news? It is an indigestible accusation. Honestly, what our brother Habtom Yohannes has written is a self condemnation and anti-democratic.
