Mass killing, kill to starve and starve to cleanse!  
A reality witnessed in mining sites of Eritrean Kunama 
land   
 
 
The Eritrean regime is taking all the advantages to kneel 
down its citizens whom it considered as rebellious. It was 
on the 01  April, 2010 , all the mining sites like Kosolda, 
Tambara and Dase of Gash Barka, were surrounded by military 
contingents from 35
th
 regiments. At early in the morning 
(6:00 Am) of the said day, suddenly, a round up (giffa) was 
carried at the sites enumerated simultaneously. Those armed 
elements were shooting indescrimanitory and have killed and 
wounded several innocent men and women who were sparing 
their lives through traditional way of gold sifting. To see 
sites by sites, 
 
KOSOLDA:  - is a site located in sub zone of Shambakko where 
not less than five thousands nationals from various corners 
of Eritrea have gathered to earn their lives through gold 
sifting. At the shot out and right on the spot four 
nationals were killed. To spare their souls, some nationals 
had slipped in to tunnels, but invain, because those 
military men were patrolling for two solid days. When failed 
to come out from the holes, they called up on microphones 
and warned them to come if not they will bury them inside. 
Still they remained there and elders from the neighboring 
were summoned and told them to advise to come out. Finally, 
gathered straws and garments, socked in kerosene, set with 
fire and thrown to the tunnels. In addition to that, brought 
not less than 30 water tanker drovers and poured the water 
in to the tunnels. Those lucky ones had escaped while the 
weak and unfortunate ones were killed by the suffocation. 
Still, as many as 20 people were killed where the corpse of 
many people remained unburied. 
On 11/04/2010 nine (9) persons were pulled out from the 
holes, 
On 12/04/2010 eight(8) persons were brought, and on 
13/04/2010  the corpse of three(3) citizens, totally, dead 
body of 20 nationals were found. Finally and at the round 
off, nationals full of 70 vehicles were loaded and taken in 
to Quaalay. Among these, six members of Kunama nationalities 
from Karkasha village were taken,

2. Yakob Awetay, 
3. Ammora Bammad, 
4. Tutun Abdalla, 
5. Muse Memme and 
6. Tommaso Daday. 
 
From Taykanaba the following nationals were taken 
   1.Yessen Tute 

   2. Haylu Shomay, 
   3. Anku Talla, 
 
From  the village of Mardami 
1. Adaggo Hamid, 
2. Afabet 
3. Dabar Tolli, 
 
From the village of Tutakuri 
1. Aggane Gamasho,ex soldier of the regime too was forced 
to join  with the victims of the round off. 
 
TAMBARA (AREA of Nara nationality):- on the same date 
( April,01,2010 ), a severe round up campaign was carried at 
Tambara. These research-based round offs were implemented on 
6:00 am, meaning early in the morning. In this locality too, 
blood of innocent people from the Nara nationalities was 
pilled. Initially two brothers the first in the tunnel, the 
other out side and who was receiving the silt to sift the 
gold were targeted. The young brother was killed by the 
first bullet while his elder was hurried from the hole. 
Eying his brother being shot, he stabbed and killed one 
soldier and snatched the rifle and killed four soldiers in 
addition. Then and finally the elder one is also killed but 
the situation did not halt by the death of these nationals. 
The gun fire was spread and 40 from the Nara nationalities 
killed. Ten soldiers too were also killed. There were also 
wounded nationals surrounded by the soldiers till the second 
day. On 03/04/2010, elders from the Nara nationalities have 
come to Barentu to file their resentments but they were 
totally ignored by the regime and came back home. 
 
DASE:-  This is the third locality invaded by the members of 
the 35
th
 regiment(kifleserawit) on April,01,2010 . At a spot 
called Dase Norata, where traditional gold sifting had taken 
place, the same measure was applied and many nationals were 
killed and imprisoned. That round up process has taken place 
till 04-04-2010.Among those nationals who were trying to 
avoid that round up by hiding in the tunnels dug for gold 
silt were kept inside and killed through suffocation. Here 
too, three Eritreans of different ethnic backgrounds were 
killed. Three members from the Kunama nationality were also 
chocked by the pollution and were taken to the Barentu 
hospital. Nationals full of four trucks and a patrol were 
taken to unknown place. Here, 
1. 15 Kunamas were taken from Aburna, 
2. 25 kunamas were taken  from Ugaro, and  
3. 07 Kunamas were taken from Fode.

15.  Ule_____________Doko. This is what the PFDJ regime 
has done up on its nationals. The purposive plan of 
the round up is for nothing but to kill harrass and 
cleanse both Kunama and Nara nationalities from their 
ancestral land. And that’s why said as mass 
killing,kill to
