Besikdira
Besikdira is a village in Sequina district south east of Feledarb on the way to Ferhen. It is today
an out station of Ferhen parish. It is also the village which suffered the massacre of 120 victims
of the infamous Ethiopian army in November 30, 1970 and the village was completely burned
down ground. When the regime of Emperor Haile Sellassie ousted by Menghistu Hailemariam in
1974, the people of Besikdira again resettled, but it was completely destroyed by the Ethiopian
army in 1988 and the people abandoned until after complete Eritrean independence in May 1991.
The exact date the chapel of Besikdira founded, is not known, but it was sometime around 1961.
What is signific ant of Besikdira, when it was an out station of Ferhen, it was the only place in
Sequina that had standard school for the whole of the area, and this school was established in
1961.) Besikdira nowadays is a village, thanks to the Church and partners, enjoy s modern
amenities of life, i.e. school, water, electricity, health (from Felearib) and telephone through cell
phone system.

The massacre of 120 innocent victims of Besikdira, 714 innocent people massacred in Ona and
the burning of the villages in the Sequina area by the Ethiopians as it appeared on one of the
publications of Franciscan publications.
